Fashion has a HUGE carbon footprint. But when talking about CO2, we think about cars and flights, not about the pollution caused by the clothes we wear. But we need to improve fast-fashion in a hurry.
Fast fashion chains order most of their items via one single supplier, who then goes out to hundreds of sub-contractors and factories. This means that the end buyer has no idea where the product they buy came from. The supply chain and its carbon emissions, water-use and pollution are anything but transparent. But ‘cleaning up’ supply chains does not have to be so difficult and sustainable clothing does not have to cost the world.
In this Podcast we talk to Frankie Phillips, the founder of the recent start-up the Rubbish Fashion Company and speaker at COP26 about fashion’s impact on the environment and how much of a positive impact the changes in the fashion supply chain we can make, starting with transparency.
